  I tried calling in five times on multiple days to the Justice of the Peace to pay a ticket, and finally, someone answered the phone. Unfortunately, they could only offer little to no information. What they did say was to send in a check for my misdemeanor ticket (having a can of cider open in public), which I did send in promptly. A month and a half later, I got a letter back with my check saying it was no good and that I am going to be charged more if I don't pay immediately by their means through a money order - odd. If this information had been relayed properly in the first place, I wouldn't be in this predicament. How am I supposed to pay when no one answers the phone and when someone does answer, the information I receive is wrong? I understand that late fees make the county more money, but it's ridiculous when you have citizens trying to pay for a slight misdemeanor on time and there's no one to answer my questions. On top of that, when my friend first called in for the same misdemeanor, they hadn't even received our citations from the Balmorhea park ranger to begin with, even though it had been 30 days! Should we have even called and been good citizens, or should I have simply let it lapse? Reeves County needs to organize their department better and answer the phone in order to answer questions from citizens who are trying to pay a ticket on time.
